Widespread especially in southern Italy, especially in Calabria, Campania and Sicily, cedar is a real mine of important nutrients for the health and well-being of our body. They are fairly large fruits ranging from 20 to 30 cm in elongated shape, have a very thick white pulp delicate in flavor and the lemon-like fruit also in flavor is about 3/5 cm in diameter.
Rich in vitamins and minerals, cedar is able to play a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system, colon, intestine, stomach, hair and kidneys. It is also rich in flavonoids, powerful antioxidants and has germicidal, disinfectant, digestive, laxative and anticancer properties, especially as regards the colon. Not to mention that it is also a valid ally to combat abdominal gases, a natural antihypertensive and an excellent ally in case of cystitis and kidney disorders.
Cedar is also capable of stimulating hair growth. It has very few calories: about 11 per 100 grams. The important thing is to consume the cedar when fresh in the form of juices or infusions or to taste its pulp, sweet compared to the juice and rich in naringenin able to perform a protective action and hinder the attack by some viruses.
Its ripening and harvesting period is between December and March.
